Welcome!

We are a pediatric occupational therapy clinic providing services for children from birth to age 18. Located in south Burnaby, we are accessible to families in the Greater Vancouver Area, including Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Surrey, Langley, and Richmond. Our pediatric occupational therapists are registered providers through COTBC and CAOT, and Registered Autism Service Providers (RASP). Kids First Pediatric Therapy is family and client-centered, where goals focus on what is important to the child and their family.

Evaluating function through sensory processing and neurodevelopmental frameworks, we are happy to work with anyone! We provide therapy for all kids, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Developmental Coordination Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Anxiety disorders, ADHD, PTSD, Global Developmental Delay, and more. We assess each child’s functional ability, regardless of diagnosis.

Funding Options for OT Services

PRIVATE/EXTENDED BENEFITS

For families paying privately, we accept cash, cheque, or e-transfer. If you have Extended Benefits, you can submit your OT invoices to your benefit provider for reimbursement.

CHARITY FUNDING

Charity funding agencies are one of many sources that help support our clientele.

CKNW Kid’s Fund and Variety Children’s Charity are regular supporters of our clients. For families requesting to use charity funding for OT services, we will provide a letter of support for your charity application following your child’s assessment.

AUTISM FUNDING (AFU)

For clients using Autism Funding, we will provide an RTP form for you to fill out. We can then submit it for you or you can upload it through the parent portal.

AT HOME PROGRAM FUNDING

For children 5 years and older who meet the criteria for AHP funding, we are required to submit a Request for School-Age Extended Therapies form, complete with OT goals. We can submit this form to AHP once information is gathered during your child’s initial assessment. AHP funding requests can be renewed each year.

HOME SCHOOL FUNDING

If your child attends a home school program or distance learning program, please contact your service provider regarding funding for OT services, and we can direct-bill once the required paperwork is received.

At Kids First, we are happy to answer any questions you may have about therapy for autism, sensory processing challenges, learning disabilities, challenges with emotional regulation, anxiety, sensitivities, avoidance behaviours, impulse control, as well as tips and strategies for home and school success.

COVID19 UPDATES

MARCH 11 2022

  1. We are open for in-person sessions, and have created additional therapy spaces upstairs in order to operate at capacity and ensure the safety of all staff and clients.

  2. Team meetings, and parent meetings will continue to be conducted virtually via telehealth. Virtual sessions are still an option for any clients interested.

  3. Session start-times are staggered to reduce crowding at entry points, and capacity limits are in place for high-traffic areas in the therapy space.

  4. Waiting areas are closed. Caregivers are expected to wait in their car or at the door - your child's OT will meet you outside to bring your child in, and will bring your child out to you at the end of the session. You are welcome to run an errand or go for a walk while your child is in-session.

  5. For those parents whose child requires their presence during a session, you must stay in the designated parent area. Only one parent/caregiver allowed in the therapy space at at time. Masks are mandatory.

  6. All children must wash their hands immediately upon entry.

  7. Masks continue to be mandatory for clients ages 5+ when participating in therapy sessions, unless the child is developmentally or medically unable to wear a mask.

  8. Children are not permitted to bring personal items from home at this time (no toys, stuffies, or blankets). A personal water bottle is permitted. Food is not permitted.

  9. All clients are screened in advance through email reminders, on-site signage, and pre-screening questions. Please cancel your child’s session if they are experiencing any symptoms related to cold or flu. Due to our reduced capacity, we have long waitlists and cancellation lists, therefore your cooperation with timely notice is appreciated in order for us to assist others.

  10. During and after all client sessions, we clean and sanitize equipment items in all therapy rooms and communal spaces. All surfaces and items are sanitized using a diluted bleach solution, as per CDC guidelines. Items that are difficult to sanitize have been removed from the therapy space.

    Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
